About The Position

The UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) is seeking a Pre-Award Analyst to provide critical support for faculty and leadership in preparing and submitting high-quality proposals. This dynamic center encompasses interdisciplinary investigators across multiple schools and has experienced significant growth, including substantial new grant funding. The center's state-of-the-art facility houses faculty and research programs supported by various grants, including NIH and CIRM. This role is essential for maintaining the center's growth trajectory by ensuring the successful submission of extramural funding proposals.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor’s guidelines.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and submission of single- and multi-investigator federal, state, and private contracts and grants, as well as other extramural funds proposals.
  • Prepare and submit complex infrastructure, equipment, and training grants supporting multiple research and instructional programs within the SCRC.
  • Support annual reporting and renewal proposal submissions.
  • Independently prepare draft and final budgets, budget justifications, and various proposal documents.
  • Perform data entry and document uploads into grant submission platforms including Kuali Research, Cayuse, ProposalCentral, CIRM GMS, and NIH ASSIST.
  • Organize and lead regular monthly and ad hoc proposal preparation working meetings with faculty members.
  • Provide project management support for multi-investigator proposals.
  • Help propel themed research groups to proposal submissions.
  • Collect, collate, and archive a proposal/award library and boilerplate/template documents.
  • Work with other units including GMP and Alpha Clinic teams to facilitate content incorporation into proposals for submission.
  • Support for pre- and post-award management for clinical trial proposals and awards.
  • Support for department purchasing needs.
  • Expansion of the role to provide post-award (fiscal officer role) support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
