About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant I role involves supporting the Tech Ops and Specimen Processing departments by ensuring accurate handling, sorting, and delivery of specimens. This position requires a strong understanding of specimen types, clinical department requirements, and compliance regulations related to test ordering. The assistant will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues with specimens, meeting quality and production standards, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role also involves supporting departmental staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime, and demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to continuous improvement within a team-based environment.

Requirements

  • Minimal data entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand job duties of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I and how functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing impact Technical departments and result quality.
  • Identify and resolve or escalate problems with specimen types, missing information, sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage of specimens.
  • Demonstrate understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering by researching information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
  • Meet quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training.
  • Complete all required written documentation legibly, understandably, and within the assigned time frame.
  • Report to work on time, follow attendance guidelines, and support departmental performance during coworker absences.
  • Learn additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing for progression to the next level.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
