About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department. This role involves data entry, organizational skills, and understanding specimen types and handling. The position requires adherence to compliance regulations, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. The assistant will contribute to a team-based environment and support departmental staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime. Tasks must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Minimal data entry skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Understanding of specimen types related to test(s) ordered
  • Understanding of clinical department requirements regarding specimen types, quantity, handling, and delivery
  • Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change
  • Commitment to fulfilling internal and external customer requirements
  • Willingness to actively contribute to a team-based working environment
  • Ability and willingness to support departmental staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime

  • Medical background preferred
  • Medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory preferred
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred
  • Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred

  • Running sorters in archive mode (potential training)
  • Learning job duties and understanding how functions impact technical departments and result quality
  • Identifying and resolving or forwarding specimen-related problems
  • Researching test order information
  • Meeting quality and production standards
  • Completing written documentation accurately and timely
  • Reporting to work on time and following attendance guidelines
  • Supporting departmental performance during coworker absences
  • Learning additional functions for progression
  • Performing other duties as assigned
