About The Position

The Pre-Admit Testing Nurse will work in a clinical or hospital setting. Shifts may vary depending on the facility's needs, including day, evening hours. Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid state nursing license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in perioperative care, surgical services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and common pre-operative procedures.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments, collect and interpret diagnostic information, and recognize potential complications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered, and able to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced setting.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pre-admission testing, patient education, or post-operative care is highly preferred.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive pre-admission assessments for patients, including reviewing medical histories, current medications, allergies, and surgical history.
  • Conduct necessary pre-operative testing, such as blood work, EKGs, and diagnostic tests, as per the physician's or facility’s guidelines.
  • Assess and verify patient understanding of the procedure, ensuring they are informed about what to expect before, during, and after surgery or treatment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to discuss pre-operative findings and any potential concerns.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, medical conditions, and physical exams in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
  • Provide education and counseling to patients regarding pre-operative instructions, such as fasting, medication adjustments, and post-operative care.
  • Review patient consent forms, ensuring they are signed and up to date.
  • Coordinate with the surgical team to confirm all necessary documentation and testing are completed before the procedure.
  • Communicate any significant findings or concerns to the appropriate medical team and assist in making recommendations for changes in patient care plans, as needed.
  • Provide emotional support to patients, offering reassurance and addressing any concerns or questions.
  • Ensure that all patient information is handled confidentially and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, providing input on processes and protocols to enhance patient safety and care.
  • Performs laboratory Point of Care testing as required.
