About The Position

Optum, a global organization, delivers care aided by technology to improve health outcomes. This role is part of Atrius Health, an innovative healthcare leader and multi-specialty group practice within the Optum family, operating at 28 practice locations in eastern Massachusetts. The team of providers works collaboratively with a value-based philosophy. The Practice Support Assistant I performs advanced duties with a high level of autonomy and competency, serving as a key member of the medical team. This position focuses on delivering excellent customer service, supporting strong patient-clinician relationships, and handling various administrative tasks that vary by department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 6+ months of customer service or healthcare experience
  • Access to reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Proven solid technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, scheduling software and electronic medical records systems (Epic or equivalent)
  • Proven solid problem solving and complex patient management skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model and mentor for support staff; assist with onboarding and training
  • Manage complex scheduling tasks, including appointment booking and patient outreach
  • Ensure accurate data collection and reporting, handle follow-up activities and referral tracking
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, resolving escalated issues and supporting patient satisfaction
  • Oversee waiting room operations, verify patient information, and assist with check-in/check-out processes
  • Complete and process forms, prior authorizations, prescription renewals, and other documentation
  • Collaborate with supervisors on coverage and workflow; lead huddles as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and special projects
