Practice Innovation Partner - Legal Professionals

Thomson ReutersWashington, DC

About The Position

Thomson Reuters is building a new senior advisory function to serve our most strategic law firm accounts. The Practice Innovation Partner is a client-facing role operating at the intersection of AI strategy, technology transformation, and the business of law. This person engages senior firm leadership to help them think through how AI changes the way their organizations operate, compete, and deliver value — and works across the full client lifecycle from pre-sale through post-sale to ensure Thomson Reuters is positioned as an indispensable strategic partner. This is a peer advisory role. Its credibility depends entirely on the depth of experience the person brings from inside the legal profession. The role is not about product demos or adoption metrics — it is about executive relationships and strategic counsel at the highest level of the firm. In this opportunity as Practice Innovation Partner, you will: Serve as the senior executive advisor for a portfolio of strategic law firm accounts, engaging firm leadership — Managing Partner, CIO, CKO, COO — on AI strategy, transformation roadmap, and operating model design. Build trusted, peer-level relationships with firm leadership that give Thomson Reuters a seat at the table when strategic technology decisions are being made. Partner with the Account Executive across the full sales and relationship lifecycle — from pre-sale and close through post-sale — providing the executive credibility and strategic altitude that enables the broader account team to operate more effectively. Develop and deliver a clear, informed point of view on how AI is reshaping the economics and operating models of law firms — grounded enough to hold up in a partners' committee conversation. Partner and maintain dotted line relationships to Product Organization to deeply understand our product roadmap, feature development and upcoming launches to best articulate back to customers. Surface executive-level insight back to TR product and business leadership on where firms are investing, what is blocking AI adoption, and what senior leaders need that the market is not yet providing. Represent Thomson Reuters at senior legal industry forums, client roundtables, and executive events where firm-level credibility is the prerequisite for the room.

Requirements

  • Experience as a senior technology, innovation, or transformation leader inside a major law firm — such as a Director or Senior Director of Legal Technology, Innovation, or Knowledge Management at an AmLaw 200 or equivalent global firm.
  • Operated at a level where you shaped firm strategy and built executive buy-in.
  • 5+ years of innovation experience, with meaningful time inside a law firm environment that mirrors the clients you will serve.
  • Practical understanding of how law firm partnership structures work — what drives partner adoption, how governance decisions get made, and where technology change efforts stall.
  • A grounded point of view on how AI changes legal staffing, pricing, client delivery, and competitive positioning — developed through direct experience, not observation.
  • Fluency in the legal technology landscape, including Westlaw, CoCounsel, Practical Law, and how they fit into firm-wide technology strategy.
  • Ability to operate credibly with firm leadership without a commercial agenda — you will not carry a quota, but your relationships will directly influence retention and growth.
  • Executive communication skills: effective one-on-one with a skeptical partner and equally effective in a structured committee presentation.
  • Collaborative by nature — you will work alongside CSMs, Practical Law Editors, AI Solutions Architects, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Professional Services, each owning a distinct part of the client relationship.
