Under the direction of the provider, the Clinical Assistant provides general support and functions for the Medical Assistant and practice. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This role involves preparing patients for visits, including taking histories and vital signs, performing routine testing, and inputting data from questionnaires. The assistant will also set up rooms for procedures, act as a chaperone, prepare instruments for reprocessing, and maintain documentation standards by reviewing charts prior to appointments. Responsibilities include accurately documenting information, scheduling outside tests or procedures, coordinating admissions and referrals, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, conducting inventory, and assisting patients with check-in and check-out. The role also involves scheduling appointments in the EMR system, answering and directing phone calls, confirming appointments, and assisting with patient forms such as Worker Compensation, FMLA, and Disability. Attendance at staff, educational, or other meetings is required, along with performing other related duties as assigned by medical assistants, nurses, practice managers, or providers within their scope.
