About The Position

Responsible for enhancing practice to enable registrants to meet the Standards of Practice resulting in better patient outcomes. Promoting and supporting the OCP mandate by conducting practice assessments in various practice settings to ensure adherence to all legislation, Policies, Guidelines, and Standards of Practice to serve and protect the public. Championing new practice initiatives with multifaceted coaching skills to influence, manage, and drive change, while supporting the safe delivery of patient-focused care through the provision of resources, references, and coaching to promote self-learning.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of legislation, College policies, guidelines, and standards of practice

Nice To Haves

  • Must hold an active Part A Pharmacist license in Ontario
  • Must be a registrant in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Must have own vehicle and possess a valid Ontario driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct practice assessments within the assigned geographical area and occasionally other communities in the province of Ontario to evaluate registrants’ practice, ensuring compliance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
  • Identify and evaluate areas for improvement and factors affecting patient care.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and coaching to registrants to minimize risks and enhance health outcomes.
  • Review registrant’s practice, apply decision-making skills to assess and document observations and discussions that occurred during the practice assessment.
  • Conduct reassessments and other additional assessments (registration committee-ordered assessments, QA committee-ordered assessments, and post-remediation assessments) throughout the province as assigned by the Quality Assurance Committee and/or the Practice Advisor Lead.
  • Prioritize practice assessments within territory based on risk, internal and external information, and other required follow up.
  • Respond to questions from registrants; liaise with other departments within the College to obtain information relevant to responding to questions from registrants and/or the visit.
  • Coach registrants to develop goals that lead to practice change as well as ensuring Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are met and enhanced.
  • Continually examine work processes and explore opportunities for improving efficiencies through team collaboration, embracing technology for novel assessment approaches, eliminating, or altering work processes and make recommendations to the Practice Advisor Lead. Work within records management principles and guidelines for record keeping.
  • Occasional extensive travel required. Involves visits to practice sites throughout Ontario (as required per most current assessment model) with occasional overnight trips.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Lead, Practice Advisors or Manager, Quality Assurance including orientation of new team members.
  • Attend quarterly OCP onsite meetings, as well as participate in weekly team meetings, consistency training sessions, and other professional development activities as required.
  • Act as subject matter experts for initiatives and projects across different teams within the college and for various organizational initiatives.
  • Participate actively in committees, assist in article preparation and writing, and engage in both internal and external presentations as needed.
  • Provide feedback for various interdepartmental initiatives upon request.
