About The Position

Ford Racing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Powertrain & Underbody Systems Engineer with a strong background in active driveline & underbody systems engineering. This pivotal role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in delivering complete powertrain systems from concept to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of research processes, understand how technology can be fast-tracked into production, and possess the fundamentals to deliver a high-quality design from concept to production. A passion for high-performance vehicles and a wide network of connections within the powertrain driveline and underbody engineering communities are essential. This role is hybrid and requires at least 4 days per week onsite in Allen Park, MI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the development of complete powertrain and underbody systems, with a strong emphasis on high performance applications.
  • Proven experience delivering multiple high-performance powertrain and underbody systems from concept and launch through production.
  • Significant depth of knowledge in complete engine/powertrain/transmission/driveline/underbody/fuel/cooling and HVAC systems engineering.
  • Understanding of engines, transmissions, transfer cases, 'prop' shafts, planetary gear sets, clutch systems and differentials, as well as filesystems, cooling systems and other underbody powertrain systems.
  • Understanding of active powertrain controls and calibration as well as aftertreatment systems is desired.
  • Ability to understand the technical aspects of delivering vehicle powertrain systems for the high performance, low volume market.
  • Team player that can lead others to solve tough issues, leverage core resources, and resolve technical issues with limited oversight.
  • Ability to immediately pull in significant technical expertise to solve issues and keep the program on track.
  • Strong understanding of program management and project deliverables that align with Ford GPDS deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual layout and delivery of a new driveline system
  • Manage program delivery of quality, cost, weight, function and timing from concept through to production
  • Coordinate and manage outside engineering and design resources
  • Interface with core technical specialists to ensure delivery of a quality system design
  • Function as primary technical interface with manufacturing engineering to ensure the system fits with the process and meets commercial needs
  • Technical management of all interface complexities with neighboring systems
  • Support vehicle program/platform teams to address functional vehicle performance attributes
  • Technical leadership for prototype builds
  • Technical leadership for problem resolution
