About The Position

The Powerplant Operator I operates and controls primary power generation and HVAC systems at Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin, Texas. The role monitors facility equipment and operating measurements, performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs, records plant operating data, and responds to power outages and other emergencies. The position is full-time on the third shift in the Facilities department.

Requirements

• Meet at least one of the following: hold a relevant license; have a high school diploma or equivalent; graduate from trade school; have two years of relevant experience; or have an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control primary power generation and HVAC systems, including boilers, turbines, generators, reactors, chillers, and cooling towers, using control boards and computers.
• Monitor facility equipment, meters, gauges, and charts at regular intervals to regulate power flow, adjust fluid levels, and detect operational problems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs, such as tightening leaking glands and pipe joints, to prevent equipment deterioration or failure.
• Record and compile operational data in logs, forms, and reports, and document equipment malfunctions to track plant status accurately.
• Respond to power outages and emergencies by handling outage calls, summoning necessary personnel, and participating in mandatory meetings, training, and special projects.
