About The Position

We are currently looking for 12 Apprentice Powerline Technicians to join our Regional Operation team throughout Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Supervisor, you will be responsible to develop skills in all aspects of line maintenance, construction, customer service work while ensuring compliance with safe work methods and practices. You will be required to participate in competency-based training, regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You may be temporarily assigned to multiple locations across Nova Scotia throughout your apprenticeship.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed the Utility Line Work – Construction & Maintenance program at Nova Scotia Community College or equivalent.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • Minimum of grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
  • Must hold a driver’s license in good standing.
  • Candidates must upload a recent copy of their driver's abstract in order for their application to be considered.
  • Comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
  • Complete a Medical Assessment to ensure you can conduct the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with associated trades is considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of level one pre-apprenticeship training is also considered an asset.
  • Holding a valid class 3 driver’s license with previous driving experience would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the theory and practical aspects of the apprenticeship program.
  • Complete a minimum of 8,000 hours in the apprenticeship program.
  • Pass the Red Seal PLT examination.
  • Be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • Be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
