About The Position

Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking an experienced Powerline Field Supervisor to lead, coordinate, and prioritize the work of field teams responsible for high-voltage overhead and underground electric distribution systems. This position oversees construction, maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance, emergency response, and contractor activities while promoting safe, reliable electric service. The ideal candidate is an experienced electric utility professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to lead geographically dispersed crews and multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four (4) year accredited university/college with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical or electronic technology or related field and a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience working as an electric power line technician first class, or related field, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; OR
  • Graduation from a two (2) year accredited university/college or technical school with a degree/certification in engineering/electronic/electrical technology or related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience as defined in (A) above; OR
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience as defined in (A) and (B) above; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined above.
  • Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of utility construction, maintenance, repair, emergency procedures, equipment, and materials.
  • Understanding of safely energizing and de-energizing electrical lines and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise employees, contractors, and multiple projects.
  • Ability to research, plan, schedule, coordinate, and prioritize complex work activities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships with employees, customers, contractors, public officials, and the community.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Extended hours and on-call availability are required.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise field activities involving overhead and underground electric distribution construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Plan, assign, coordinate, and prioritize work for field personnel across multiple locations.
  • Investigate service and repair requests and determine appropriate work activities.
  • Develop preventive maintenance plans and coordinate work assignments.
  • Provide technical guidance and assist with troubleshooting electric line issues.
  • Manage contracts and coordinate work performed by supplemental contract crews.
  • Inspect completed work or delegate inspections to ensure compliance with established construction and safety standards.
  • Maintain reports, records, schedules, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in extended-hours and on-call coverage as required.
