About The Position

Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking an experienced Powerline Crewleader to lead and participate in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution systems. This position provides field leadership for line crews, oversees daily work activities, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled lineworker with strong leadership abilities, extensive knowledge of electric utility operations, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited two (2) year community/technical college with a degree/certification in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years experience as an electric Powerline Technician first class, which includes lead worker responsibilities; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined (A) and (B) above.
  • Functional Employment Test (FET) required.
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Ability to free climb utility poles.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct crew activities related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Investigate job sites and pre-plan work activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Install and maintain primary and secondary power lines, cables, and conduit systems.
  • Operate bucket trucks, line trucks, backhoes, and conductor/cable pulling and tensioning equipment.
  • Perform and oversee emergency restoration and outage response activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate line personnel while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Complete work orders, timesheets, and other required documentation.
