About The Position

The Power Systems Project Engineer – Controls Focus supports the development and integration of generator control systems by assisting with electrical system architecture design, controller schematics, and system-level performance specifications. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this Power Systems Project Engineer – Controls Focus role contributes to the creation and documentation of technical requirements, participates in cross-functional collaboration, and helps identify and resolve system-level issues. The Power Systems Project Engineer – Controls Focus provides input during design reviews, supports risk analysis activities, and contributes to continuous improvement through technical learning and knowledge sharing. This Power Systems Project Engineer – Controls Focus plays a key role in building foundational expertise in controls technologies, system design, and generator applications while supporting both current and future engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Basic programming knowledge in C, C++, or a similar high-level language
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Strong verbal and written communication and cross collaboration teamwork
  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage assigned tasks and small projects with direction and oversight

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to tools such as PSPICE or OrCAD
  • Familiarity with PLC programming
  • Understanding of Agile and/or Waterfall development methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn complex systems and apply engineering fundamentals
  • High attention to detail, particularly in documentation and design work
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Foundational knowledge of power systems concepts (e.g., wiring, grounding, paralleling, load management) is a plus
  • Exposure to communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, I²C, or SPI is a plus
  • Awareness of relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development of controls technologies and algorithms under guidance of senior engineers
  • Supporting creation and documentation of system-level requirements for controller development
  • Identifying, troubleshooting, and documenting technical issues with appropriate mentorship
  • Developing foundational technical knowledge in generator control system design
  • Assist in developing, analyzing, and documenting electrical system architectures
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support development and documentation of system requirements and specifications
  • Assist in developing and documenting generator controller electrical schematics to support controller integration
  • Support development and documentation of electronic controls system-level performance specifications
  • Contribute to system-level design ideas for current and future projects
  • Support cross-functional teams in documenting system risk analyses
  • Provide technical input during team design reviews based on assigned tasks and growing system knowledge
  • Investigate, resolve, and document generator system technical issues under supervision
  • Participate in technical discussions with internal teams and occasionally external parties as appropriate
  • Build and share technical knowledge through internal forums, training, and professional development activities
  • Support special technical projects as needed by the department
