About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an undergraduate Power Systems Engineering Intern to join the Analog and Power Systems Department within the Electronics Engineering Subdivision. This role involves providing technical support in Power Systems Engineering, applying academic skills to create satellite energy balance and/or launch vehicle energy depletion analysis models under expert guidance. The intern will work with experienced staff to understand major satellite subsystem elements, utilize and develop system-level modeling tools, learn about satellite operation through launch and initialization, and gain an understanding of how other spacecraft subsystems interact. Exposure to power electronics modeling, simulation, and testing in a laboratory environment is also part of the role. The intern will be responsible for writing clear and concise reports documenting their work. Duties may change as needed, with training and mentorship provided.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
  • Sophomore class standing completed by internship start date.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Completed coursework and/or fundamental knowledge of power systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Transcripts required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Power Systems Engineering technical support.
  • Apply academic technical skills to create satellite energy balance and / or launch vehicle energy depletion analysis models.
  • Work with experienced Power Systems Engineering staff to increase knowledge and understanding of major satellite subsystem elements.
  • Utilize and/or develop system level modeling tools and resources that facilitate hardware performance characterization.
  • Learn how satellites operate through launch and initialization.
  • Gain an understanding of how other spacecraft subsystems and related focus areas like Thermal Control, Attitude Control, Flight Mechanics, and Communications work concurrently to generate data products for vehicle level assessments.
  • Gain exposure to power electronics modeling, simulation, and testing in a laboratory environment.
  • Write clear and concise reports that document your work.
