About The Position

Tacoma Power's Transmission & Distribution (T&D) division is looking for a Power Systems Engineer (Power Systems Engineer or Power Systems Engineer, Associate level) to join their Line Engineering team! In this role you will contribute to the success of T&D by performing engineering evaluation, analysis, and generating work packages that include overhead & underground line relocations, assisting with customer driven projects, system upgrades, and Joint Use work. This position will work closely with the T&D Construction & Maintenance team to achieve program and project success. Under the Direction of the Line Distribution Principal Engineer the Responsibilities of this Position Include: Perform analysis of poles, structures, equipment, and system configuration by applying engineering methods and judgment Utilize software tools, research, standards & other recognized techniques when necessary Apply knowledge of transmission and distribution line construction practices, materials and operational needs to develop and create detailed designs, material lists, drawings, work sketches and, work order packages Coordinate and collaborate with: system planners, new service engineers and, line construction personnel on projects to establish feasibility then develop scopes of work, cost estimates & resource needs, and schedules. Support engineering and design issues through construction by providing timely information Apply and interpret safety codes such as the National Electrical Safety Code, worker safety laws, local regulations, and franchise requirements. Monitor schedule and budget and proactively inform the customer of status Identify and define property rights and permitting needs Specify and direct the collection of field data

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or directly related field
  • 0-1 years of experience (Associate level)
  • 2 years of engineering experience in a power utility (Power Systems Engineer level)
  • Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis
  • Washington State Driver's License
  • Some positions may require individuals to complete annual CIP training after employment and pass a comprehensive personal risk assessment (background check) prior to employment and every five years thereafter as required by federal regulatory requirements (NERC-CIP)
