About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]. The role is onsite in Akron OH, Fairmont WV, Greensburg PA, or Reading PA. Responsibilities include short circuit impedance modeling of transmission and sub-transmission lines, system interconnections, substations, and transformers to ensure system accuracy, compliance with NERC standards, and reliable operation. This involves modeling impedances of lines and transformers, air switch capability, and power flow models. The engineer will perform transmission modeling activities with operating companies, other utilities, nonutility customer load/generation, PJM, and ReliabilityFirst. They will also be involved in discussions and resolutions for modeling discrepancies, questions, and compliance concerns. Additionally, the role involves developing and maintaining applications, queries, and macros, actively participating in industry working groups and forums to position FirstEnergy as an engaged leader in transmission activities, and continually seeking opportunities to increase internal and external customer satisfaction and deepen relationships with neighboring companies, PJM, ReliabilityFirst, and NERC. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 (two) years of Engineering experience is required (for Engineer II).
  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required (for Engineer III).
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years of Engineering experience is required with a BS in Engineering or minimum of 7 (seven) years of Engineering experience is required with a BS in Engineering Technology (for Engineer IV).

Nice To Haves

  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
