About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Power Plant Operator for the 2nd Shift. This onsite role involves performing facilities work necessary to operate, install, overhaul, maintain, and repair a variety of equipment used to generate, transfer, and supply energy and utilities for plant operations. The operator will perform associated duties where interrelated systems require planning and performing necessary work to resolve operating and distribution problems. Under the direction of a Leader/Supervisor, the operator will perform duties to operate, maintain, service, and repair equipment, systems, and control devices for providing heat, water, cooling, air, and other utilities to support plant operations. This includes operating, maintaining, and repairing powerhouse and auxiliary generation and distribution equipment and related system components. The role involves monitoring and controlling complex boilers, compressors, and air machinery, performing installation, overhaul, and repair work, and carrying out preventive maintenance and service as required. Additionally, the operator will aid others in system operation, care, and use of equipment, and work in support of special project groups, performing similar duties throughout the facility within the scope and skill level of the job description. Assisting other trades on joint projects is also a part of the role.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Equivalent to 2+ years’ trades training and boiler operation experience.
Possess or a Connecticut State Operating Engineer (OE-2) License or able to obtain within 45 days of arrival.
May be required to train for, obtain and maintain other licenses, operator permits and certifications with the specialization.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

In compliance with the collective bargaining agreement, priority consideration is given to candidates who are INTERNAL (and recall) to the Pratt & Whitney IAM Bargaining Unit members of District Lodge 26 and Affiliated Locals 700 and 1746 (Connecticut Operations).
Well-rounded knowledge of the operation of steam generation, cooling towers, gas compression, water treatment and auxiliary distribution systems and associated control system and components.
Familiarity with principles of combustion, maintenance and repair of boilers and safe operating procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform facilities work necessary to operate, install, overhaul, maintain and repair a variety of equipment assigned to facilities services used to generate, transfer and supply energy and utilities for plant operations.
Perform associated duties where interrelated systems require planning and performing necessary work to resolve operating and distribution problems.
Operate, maintain, service and repair equipment, systems and control devices for providing heat, water cooling air and other utilities and to support plan operations.
Operate, maintain and repair powerhouse and auxiliary generation and distribution equipment and related system components.
Monitor and control operation of complex boilers, compressors and air machinery for use throughout the plant.
Perform installation, overhaul and repair work and carry out preventive maintenance and service as required.
Aid others in system operation, care and use for equipment and proper work practices.
Work in support of special project groups.
Perform similar duties throughout the facility within the scope and skill level of this job description.
Assist other trades working on joint projects where common skill crossover provides the opportunity for shared responsibilities and more effective use of available skills.
