About The Position

This position assists with the maintenance and repairs of the company’s fleet, which consists of vehicles and heavy equipment such as top loaders, mules, forklifts, box trucks, and step vans. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Experience in equipment maintenance, repairs, operations, and maintenance programs.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Miami-Dade County Diesel Technician apprenticeship program.
  • Candidate must remain enrolled in the Miami-Dade County Diesel Technician apprenticeship program and complete all the required coursework and on-the-job training.
  • Demonstrated safe and proper application of hand, pneumatic, and electric tools.
  • Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in basic English.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift certification within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Learning the intricacies and best practices of preventative maintenance services and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment under the guidance of experienced Diesel Mechanics.
  • Assist in the performance of all planned maintenance on diesel engines and on fuel, brake, and transmission systems to ensure peak performance, safety, and longevity of equipment.
  • Assist with minor repair work to the brake, electric, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist in the overhaul and repair and/or rebuild of all vehicles and power industrial trucks.
  • Fix and/or replace lights on all vehicles and power industrial trucks.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards, and maintain an awareness of surrounding (i.e. vehicles, equipment, etc.) at all times.
  • Assists with minor bodywork repairs and finishes to the fleet.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
