We are seeking an experienced Team Leader, Power Infrastructure & Distribution to lead and grow our Southwest regional practice spanning Texas through California. This senior leadership role is ideal for a Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in electrical engineering, project management, and business development who is passionate about building teams, developing client relationships, and delivering complex power infrastructure projects. Reporting into the Energy leadership team, you will be responsible for the growth, technical excellence, and operational performance of a multidisciplinary team delivering power infrastructure solutions across utility, transportation, industrial, commercial, and public sector markets. The team provides services across power system studies, utility interconnections, electrical distribution systems, substations, protection and controls, infrastructure electrification, and integrated energy solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, utility infrastructure, or related fields.
  • Proven track record delivering complex power infrastructure projects from planning through execution.
  • Strong technical understanding of power system studies, electrical distribution systems, utility interconnections, substations, protection and controls, infrastructure electrification, and integrated energy systems.
  • Knowledge of grid modernization, distributed energy resources, renewable energy integration, microgrids, and energy transition projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing project financial performance, resources, and client relationships.
  • Experience growing teams, developing technical capabilities, and building sustainable business pipelines.
  • Experience leading regional or practice-level growth initiatives.
  • Strong business development, client engagement, and relationship management skills, with a proven ability to identify, pursue, and win new opportunities.
  • Established relationships with utilities, infrastructure owners, and key clients throughout Texas, California, and the broader Southwest region.
  • Experience serving utility, transportation, industrial, commercial, and public sector clients.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and expand Mott MacDonald's Power Infrastructure and Electrical Distribution practice across the Southwest region.
  • Provide technical leadership for projects involving power system studies, electrical distribution networks, utility interconnections, substations, protection and control systems, infrastructure electrification, and integrated energy solutions.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, quality assurance processes, design guides, and engineering best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, utility requirements, regulatory requirements, and company quality programs.
  • Promote innovation and adoption of emerging technologies including electrification, grid modernization, microgrids, automation, digitalization, and integrated energy systems.
  • Collaborate with Energy, Transportation, Water, and Buildings teams to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for project delivery, ensuring quality, profitability, schedule performance, and effective resource utilization.
  • Ensure power engineering resources are appropriately staffed and aligned with project requirements and client expectations.
  • Support major project pursuits and help position Mott MacDonald for success across key infrastructure and energy programs.
  • Partner with Client Directors and market leaders to develop and execute growth strategies across utility, transportation, water, energy, and buildings markets.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of power infrastructure opportunities and support pursue-and-win activities.
  • Lead client engagement with electric utilities focused on grid modernization, distribution planning, reliability, resiliency, and electrification initiatives.
  • Serve as Client Director for key strategic accounts, strengthening relationships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.
  • Oversee recruitment, workforce planning, career development, and technical training.
  • Establish discipline standards, processes, and quality expectations.
  • Support succession planning and the development of future technical and people leaders.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.
