About The Position

The Power Electronics Manager leads a team of electrical engineers in developing high-power inverters, and converters, and transformers while overseeing component obsolescence and lifecycle management. This role partners with QA, Operations, Sales, and Supply Chain to deliver competitive, reliable solutions for demanding applications, including nuclear-grade and high-reliability industrial systems. Responsibilities include team development, process improvement, cost and margin discipline, and supporting new product development. The ideal candidate has a strong background in power electronics, industrial UPS/inverter systems, or mission-critical power solutions, along with proven experience leading cross-functional, customer-facing engineering teams. This position is based at our Columbus, Ohio facility and reports to the Director of R&D/Engineering.

Requirements

  • An Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited program is required.
  • Previous management experience working in power electronics applications.
  • 10+ years of experience with industrial equipment.
  • Must possess both technical and business skills.
  • The ability to communicate with executives, clients, employees, as well as business partners is required.
  • Must be a strategic thinker who understands and anticipates customer needs.
  • Must also possess strong project management, communication, interpersonal, and team leadership and organization skills, the ability to work closely with other team members to meet objectives and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong business skills combined with in-depth knowledge of industrial batteries, AC-DC rectifiers, DC-AC inverters, and AC-AC voltage regulators.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations (NEC, UL).
  • Knowledge of electrical applications for high and low voltage electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level technical guidance on power electronics solutions, including topology selection, system architecture, and compliance with applicable industry standards
  • Ensure proposed solutions meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and AMETEK's nuclear-grade reliability standards
  • Drive technical risk assessment and mitigation during the proposal phase to support successful project execution
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) efforts by providing application and market insights
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the power electronics team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Set individual performance goals aligned with overall business objectives, and provide ongoing coaching and career development
  • Drive workload planning, resource allocation, and prioritization to meet business and customer commitments
  • Champion talent acquisition and retention strategies to build a high-performing technical organization
  • Serve as the senior technical point of contact for customers, application engineering, project engineering, and design engineering
  • Lead critical customer discussions, technical clarifications, and escalations
  • Partner with Sales leadership to develop winning strategies for key pursuits across nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, and industrial markets
  • Represent AMETEK Solidstate Controls at customer meetings, technical reviews, industry events, and trade shows as needed
  • Provide market and competitive intelligence to inform product strategy and roadmap decisions
