Power Electronics Engineer II

RTX•El Segundo, CA
•$75,800 - $144,200•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated Power Electronics Engineer to support advanced aerospace and defense programs. This P2-level role is suited to an early-career engineer ready to take technical ownership of subassemblies and work with senior engineers to deliver high-performance, high-reliability power solutions. The position contributes to the design, development, analysis, testing, and integration of power-conversion hardware for airborne, space, radar, and next-generation power-platform applications. The engineer will design power-conversion circuits and architectures; create schematics, select components, and support PCB layout; conduct circuit, reliability, and thermal analyses; and develop magnetics. The role also involves applying SiC and GaN technologies, supporting EMI/EMC compliance, testing and debugging hardware in the lab, preparing verification documentation, collaborating across engineering and manufacturing teams, and contributing to requirements, production issue resolution, design reviews, trade studies, and technology maturation. The position is primarily onsite in El Segundo, California. U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance are required; the posting also states that the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued clearance is required. The salary range is $75,800–$144,200. Relocation is eligible. Applicants may be eligible for a range of benefits and incentive compensation, subject to business-unit and collective-bargaining eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in power electronics design, analysis, or test; work experience, co-op, or internships are accepted.
  • Experience with switched-mode power-converter topologies, such as buck, boost, flyback, half/full bridge, PFC, or motor control.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, LTspice, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and electronic loads.
  • Experience with high-power and high-voltage safety principles.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • An active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day 1; the posting also requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with aerospace/defense standards such as MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, or DO-160.
  • Familiarity with DSP- or MCU-based digital control of power converters.
  • Experience with SiC/GaN power devices and gate-driver design.
  • Thermal modeling or analysis experience using ANSYS or Flotherm.
  • Magnetics design experience.
  • Knowledge of reliability analysis, derating methodologies, and WCCA.
  • Experience taking hardware through the full development lifecycle, from requirements and design through integration, test, and production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power-conversion circuits, including AC/DC, DC/DC, servo/motor controls, filters, and power-system architectures.
  • Create schematics, select components, and support PCB layout for power boards.
  • Perform SPICE simulation, worst-case analysis, derating, reliability assessments, and thermal modeling.
  • Develop inductor and transformer designs, including performance models and winding specifications.
  • Apply SiC and GaN devices to support high-power-density and high-efficiency designs.
  • Support EMI/EMC compliance through simulation, design techniques, and testing aligned with MIL-STD and aerospace standards.
  • Conduct hands-on lab testing, including hardware bring-up, debugging, characterization, and validation.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and documentation to support verification across development stages.
  • Collaborate with systems, digital design, mechanical/thermal engineering, manufacturing, and integration teams.
  • Contribute to requirements development, traceability, and design documentation.
  • Support root-cause analysis and production issue resolution.
  • Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and IRAD/technology maturation tasks.
