About The Position

OIT is seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to assist with our BI Program. This role requires expertise in requirements gathering, data modeling, data source connectivity, DAX formulas, report creation, Power BI Service & Deployment, AI familiarity, and strong collaboration & communication skills. The developer will collaborate with business users and data analysts to understand requirements, design data models, connect to various data sources, write DAX formulas, create interactive reports and dashboards, publish reports to the Power BI Service, and leverage AI technologies. Experience with Azure DevOps and Google AI tools is a plus. The developer is expected to follow organizational patterns for source and version control and be able to utilize Azure DevOps. This engagement is expected to exceed 9 months. While remote work is supported, the contractor must perform work within the State of Colorado, preferably in the Denver Metropolitan Area, and may need to attend in-person meetings.

Requirements

Proficient in using Excel at an intermediate level, comfortable with complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Ability to reverse engineer processes originally developed by business users, deconstructing existing formulas, pivot tables, and data analyses to interpret business requirements based on existing manual processes and suggest efficiency improvements and logic optimizations.
Understands how to deliver row and column-level security within the Power BI semantic model.
Familiarity with running tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer for adhering to modeling and DAX best practices.
Proficiency in writing DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas.
Capable of optimizing Power BI reports or making suggestions to underlying data model for performance, including the use of DAX Studio and built in Power BI performance tools.
Proficient in publishing reports to the Power BI Service, managing access controls, automating refresh schedules, and optimizing report performance for large datasets.
Comfortable working with AI tools and leveraging AI technologies to enhance processes and optimize data analysis workflows.
Experienced in collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, explain technical concepts to non-technical users, and deliver reports that align with business goals.
Ability to present complex data insights and reports to non-technical audiences and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and effective communication.
Experienced in meeting preparation, screensharing and conducting working sessions which may include discussing backlog item statuses, and gathering additional requirements as they may change.
Must perform the work within the State of Colorado and preferably in the Denver Metropolitan Area.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Google AI tools is a plus.
Experience with Azure DevOps is a plus.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the business and with data analysts to understand requirements and business objectives for relevant reports & visualizations as well as underlying data model.
Identifies relevant data sources and attributes for use in model.
Designs and documents efficient conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business requirements.
Establishes re-usable semantic data models within Power BI.
Creates relationships between tables and optimizes data structures.
Connects to various data sources (APIs, Big Query, ArcGIS map and feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, etc.) including streaming datasets.
Ensures seamless data extraction and transformation.
Collaborates with the members of OIT Integrations team to ascertain available integration patterns.
Writes DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas, including calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
Designs and develops interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards.
Incorporates slicers, visuals, and drill-through functionality, including streaming and ArcGIS visuals.
Optimizes Power BI reports or makes suggestions to underlying data model for performance, including the use of DAX Studio and built in Power BI performance tools.
Publishes reports to the Power BI Service, manages access controls, automates refresh schedules, and optimizes report performance for large datasets.
Works with AI tools and leverages AI technologies to enhance processes and optimize data analysis workflows.
Follows organizational patterns for source and version control for Power BI files and utilizes Azure DevOps as appropriate.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, explain technical concepts to non-technical users, and deliver reports that align with business goals.
