About The Position

SYSCOM's client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain a reliable and effective Power BI reporting environment. The role focuses on SQL query development, student loan data validation, business intelligence reporting, dashboard development, and migrating existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI. The developer will configure Power BI within the Microsoft Power Platform environment, create complex custom visualizations, implement reporting security and accessibility controls, and provide technical training and knowledge transfer to business users. The position is remote and has a duration of 9 months, with a possible extension.

Requirements

At least 5 years of advanced hands-on Power BI development experience.
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards, reports, and complex custom visualizations.
Experience writing SQL queries and performing data validation across multiple datasets.
Experience with Power BI Service configuration, data refresh strategies, and integration with SQL-based data sources.
Experience gathering business requirements and developing technical documentation.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and business stakeholders.
Strong presentation skills, including experience with formal and informal technical presentations.

Nice To Haves

Experience performing robust student loan data validation, including forbearance data.
Experience with Azure SQL Server and the Microsoft Power Platform environment.
Experience migrating Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI.
Experience implementing reporting security, accessibility, and access management controls.
Experience conducting technical training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer for business users.

Responsibilities

Design, configure, and maintain a stable, reliable, and effective Power BI Service reporting environment.
Develop and maintain dashboards for business users, including complex custom UI visualizations based on specifications.
Migrate existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI.
Develop and support ad hoc reporting capabilities.
Configure Power BI within the Microsoft Power Platform environment.
Ensure reports meet agency and performance requirements.
Develop automation routines to export data to formats including Excel.
Write and extract SQL queries for reporting and data analysis.
Validate data quality across multiple datasets, including student loan data from various sources.
Conduct root cause analysis of student loan data issues and anomalies.
Develop data refresh strategies using Azure SQL Server and other applicable data sources.
Configure best-practice security, accessibility, and access management controls in the reporting environment.
Identify and remediate accessibility issues in Power BI reports and dashboards.
Collaborate with developers to improve reporting functionality and establish best practices.
Gather and document business requirements and identify new reporting features; elicit requirements when a Business Analyst is unavailable.
Communicate and document business rules.
Lead technical meetings with business users and stakeholders.
Develop technical manuals and supporting documentation.
Lead Power BI technical training, mentoring, and co-development sessions with business area employees.
Provide user-level training on Power BI functionality and reporting tools.
Deliver daily project status reports to end clients and track progress against project milestones.
Transfer knowledge to business users and technical staff.
