Power BI Developer
About The Position
The Power BI Developer will support a client partnering with the Office of Higher Education (OHE). The role focuses on building and maintaining a stable, reliable Power BI Service environment for reporting and creating complex custom Power BI visualizations to specification. Work includes writing and extracting SQL queries, validating student loan data from multiple sources, creating dashboards, providing ad hoc reporting, remediating accessibility issues, and migrating existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI. The developer will configure Power BI within the Power Platform environment, establish security and access-management practices, and develop data-refresh strategies using Azure SQL Server and other applicable sources. The role also involves investigating loan-data issues and anomalies, gathering and documenting business rules and requirements, automating data exports to other formats such as Excel, ensuring reports meet agency and performance requirements, and providing user training and knowledge transfer to State business-area employees.
Requirements
- Five years of advanced Power BI development experience.
- Experience performing robust student loan data validation, including forbearance data.
- Strong experience writing technical documentation.
- Excellent communication skills, including communication with high-level leaders.
- Versatile presentation skills for both informal and formal settings.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain a stable, reliable, and effective Power BI Service reporting environment.
- Write and extract SQL queries and validate student loan data from multiple sources.
- Create dashboards for business users and develop complex custom Power BI visualizations to specifications.
- Provide ad hoc reporting and migrate existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI.
- Perform root cause analysis of loan-related data issues and anomalies.
- Gather business requirements, identify features, and document business rules.
- Configure Power BI within the Power Platform environment.
- Develop automation routines to export data to other formats, such as Excel.
- Ensure reports meet agency and performance requirements.
- Configure security, accessibility, and access-management controls for the reporting environment.
- Develop data-refresh strategies using Azure SQL Server and other applicable data sources.
- Liaise with developers to improve reporting functionality and establish best practices.
- Develop technical manuals and other technical documentation.
- Lead Power BI technical training, mentoring, and co-development with business-area employees.
- Deliver daily project status reports to end clients, tracking progress against milestones.
- Perform knowledge transfer.
