Powder Packing Operator
About The Position
The Powder Packing Operator efficiently operates packaging equipment, including Ava/Sapac, lactose, and butter packaging systems, to meet company production standards for finished product pounds and bags per hour. The role involves operating butter packaging, bulk filling, and remelting equipment; packing butter into proper containers; palletizing and preparing products for shipping and storage; maintaining packaging supplies and accurate production records; and performing cleaning, sanitation, and warehouse support duties. The operator follows SOPs, HACCP guidelines, and UDA quality, safety, and GMP policies, and reports equipment problems and nonconformities. This is a full-time night-shift position at the Main Plant in Tempe, Arizona, with 12-hour shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The work takes place on a production floor and includes extended standing and walking and some lifting of up to 55 pounds. Travel is not required.
Requirements
- Ability to operate packaging equipment.
- Knowledge of good manufacturing practices.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
- Ability to read, hear, speak, write, comprehend, and carry out verbal and written instructions and SOPs in English.
- Ability to multitask.
- General knowledge of packaging equipment, conveyor systems, and food manufacturing environments is helpful.
- Knowledge of packaging and food manufacturing processes.
- Standing and walking for extended periods; occasional bending, crouching, stooping, twisting, reaching, and grasping; ability to climb stairs; and ability to lift up to 55 pounds.

Responsibilities
- Efficiently operate Ava/Sapac, lactose, and butter packaging systems to meet established production standards for pounds of finished product and bags per hour.
- Perform start-up and shut-down functions for powder bins, rare earth magnets, packaging fillers, ink jet coding machines, metal detection equipment, palletizing systems, bulk fillers, and remelting equipment.
- Operate butter packaging, bulk filler, and remelting equipment to package butter in appropriate containers.
- Hand-pack 55-pound cases of butter onto pallets and palletize product in the proper configuration.
- Shrink-wrap and prepare products for shipping and storage using case-packer equipment.
- Perform daily assembly cleaning, swabbing, and sanitizing of packagers, printers, and other areas as needed.
- Notify production operators of packaging equipment problems.
- Maintain adequate packaging supply stock.
- Keep accurate and legible records, including weights, start times, down times, and pallets produced.
- Maintain cleanliness of warehouse production and powder packaging areas, including sanitation, cleaning, and sweeping.
- Perform miscellaneous production powder warehouse support duties, including sorting and stacking.
- Provide relief coverage for other packaging operators as needed.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area at all times.
- Follow SOPs and HACCP guidelines, as well as UDA quality, safety, and GMP policies and procedures; report nonconformities.
- Perform other duties as required.
