About The Position

This position is responsible for the handling of birds and equipment for the selection process by performing all essential duties in rotation with others. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 4:20 am to 2:35 pm or until complete, with some Friday work potentially required based on trial needs. The work schedule is subject to change based on production needs. Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months and an attendance point level of 6 or less, unless promoting, in which case less than 6 months in the current area is allowable.

Requirements

  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly catch, carry, and control individual birds weighing from 3.5 to 12 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor), walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species.
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Must wear company-provided facial covering.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Ear plugs, arm protectors, and NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators may be worn as desired.

Responsibilities

  • Setup equipment for selection process per instructions.
  • Select birds by isolating no more than 200 birds into a catch frame for selection, catching birds per animal welfare standards, identifying gender, verifying line by observing wing band color, holding clean wing band under a scanner for data entry, placing birds in a scale cone to obtain weight, monitoring bird groups and stirring to avoid crowding per animal welfare guidelines, and placing birds received from the selector in designated locations.
  • Euthanize off-condition birds using the cervical dislocation method based upon animal welfare guidelines.
  • Move partitions, back trailer, clean and sanitize equipment for movement between areas per biosecurity requirements.
  • Operate a high-pressure and regular water hose.
  • Maintain equipment by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and cleaning/disinfecting to remove debris.
  • Maintain foot pans and hand sanitizer.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
