About The Position

This is a Part-time PRN position for a Postpartum Nurse (RN). The role involves providing care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including demonstrating basic knowledge of fetal monitoring and assisting physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery departments. The nurse will be responsible for medication administration, performing head-to-toe assessments, revising and evaluating the plan of care, and developing teaching plans for patients and families. Effective communication with the charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians, as well as collaboration with other departments, is essential. The position also requires maintaining documentation according to current standards, addressing psychosocial needs, and operating equipment safely. Adherence to the hospital's Ethics and compliance program and Standards of Performance is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred.
  • IV certification for LPN.
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy under direct supervision.
  • Revise plan of care as indicated by patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning (family is included as appropriate).
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of fetal monitoring.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.
  • Consult other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments.
  • Demonstrate ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and involve patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital outline.
  • Adhere to and practice the standards of performance in the Standards of Performance handbook.
