About The Position

This position involves providing care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient. The nurse will perform head-to-toe assessments, reassessments, and revise care plans as needed. They will also develop and evaluate teaching plans, demonstrate basic knowledge of fetal monitoring, and assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery departments. The role requires effective communication, collaboration with other departments, and respectful interaction with patients and families. Documentation must meet current standards, and psychosocial needs should be identified and addressed. The employee must operate equipment safely and adhere to the hospital's ethics and compliance program and standards of performance.

Requirements

• Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
• Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
• Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
• BLS required.

Nice To Haves

• Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred
• IV certification for LPN
• ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
• Revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning (family is included in teaching as appropriate).
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of fetal monitoring.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.
• Consult other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
• Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
• Assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments.
• Demonstrate ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Interact professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
• Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
• Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family.
• Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
• Perform within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s Ethics and compliance program.
• Detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital outline.
• Adhere to and practice the standards of performance in the Standards of Performance handbook.
