About The Position

As a Postdoctoral Scientist in Functional Genome Engineering, you will join Bayer Crop Science R&D as a key contributor to functional genomics and high-throughput (HTP) screening initiatives. In this role, you bridge wet lab and computational biology approaches to identify novel targets and biological pathways in organisms of interest. Working closely with a multidisciplinary research team, you will serve as a technical expert responsible for establishing advanced functional genomics platforms, designing and executing HTP genetic perturbation screens, and generating insights that support decision-making, problem-solving, and pipeline innovation across the organization.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a biological or biomedical field, molecular or cell biology, genetics or genomics, bioinformatics, or a similar area;
  • Proven experience with CRISPR screens or related gene perturbation technologies using pooled or targeted approaches;
  • Experience with next-generation transcriptomics analysis or a related area;
  • Experience working in an AWS cloud computing environment and proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, etc.);
  • Familiarity with innovative or emerging fields of study;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a commitment to high-quality deliverables and the ability to build productive internal and external relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with library preparation for high-throughput pooled or targeted approaches screening techniques;
  • Knowledge of machine learning applications for functional genomics;
  • Experience with agricultural specimens;
  • Experience collaborating across multiple teams, fostering a team-based approach to research, and leveraging partnerships;
  • Experience clearly communicating project plans and experimental results with partners and stakeholders, maintaining alignment on objectives and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute genetic perturbation screens in various organisms of interest and cell lines;
  • Establish and optimize gene perturbation tools and reagents for various applications;
  • Conduct in-depth data analyses and design controlled experiments in collaboration with cross-functional partners, coordinating their implementation to enable project success;
  • Understand and anticipate broader project and team interests, identifying, proposing, and performing complementary analyses to enrich insights from multiple modalities and data layers;
  • Conduct complex activities that require specialized knowledge and the broad application of scientific principles;
