About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is hiring a Postdoctoral Scholar for the Brain Stimulation Division. This position is part of a laboratory focused on multimodal characterization (e.g., EEG, fMRI, autonomic physiology) and modulation (e.g., brain stimulation, CBT) of transdiagnostic dysregulation of emotion and cognition. The primary responsibilities involve an ongoing trial of accelerated, closed-loop EEG-rTMS paired with accelerated CBT for depression and suicide risk. The role includes administering accelerated CBT, structured diagnostic interviewing, and neuromodulation sessions using EEG and TMS. Data analysis for cognition and emotion processing tasks, including quality control, preprocessing, analysis, and manuscript preparation, is also expected. The individual will have opportunities to assist with other studies focused on improving cognition and emotion regulation in healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. The position also offers career development mentoring and support for career development award submissions.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent required prior to start date
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts as required.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

  • A doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD/PsyD) is preferred.
  • Prior experience with CBT and structured diagnostic interviewing is preferred.
  • Prior experience with EEG, MRI or other physiological measures and their integration as well as TMS or other brain stimulation techniques is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and advise research staff concerning individual case diagnoses and treatment for research subjects.
  • Conduct in-service staff training.
  • Provide advice to research Principal Investigators (PIs) to assist in policy and standards development.
  • Attend weekly clinical supervision with doctoral level clinical psychologists.
  • Attend weekly staff and treatment team meetings to review study progress.
  • Provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) instruments for depression and suicide risk prevention to research patients.
  • Prepare assessments and outline all limitations imposed by medical impairments.
  • Interpret and explain medical findings.
  • Conduct data retrieval from large databases for data reporting and analysis.
  • Assist with manuscript preparation.
  • Provide time for independent research for manuscript writing, applying for funding, and conducting research presentations.
  • Obtain informed consent, enroll study participants, and conduct study psychiatric/neuropsychological intake visits as per the protocols.
  • Provide education information to subjects.
  • Assist with recruiting and screening research participants, including the development of advertising materials, meeting with and calling potential participants, distribution of advertising materials, and collaborating with relevant providers and researchers.
