About The Position

THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL JULY 1, 2030. The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct research that will define the molecular mechanisms that regulate the unique polarized cell division process of Chlamydia trachomatis.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree.
  • Three (3) years in experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or imaging techniques in a bacterial system.
  • Knowledge of bacterial growth and cell division.
  • Ability to clone and express tagged cell division proteins.
  • Skill in various aspects of imaging of fluorescently labeled proteins.
  • Self-motivated and ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work effectively with other members of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assays that will define the role of specific proteins in the polarized cell division process of Chlamydia trachomatis.
  • Establishes and analyzes the effects of knockdowns in Chlamydia trachomatis using a CRISPRi inducible knockdown system.
  • Performs immunofluorescent imaging assays: including epifluorescent, confocal, and super-resolution imaging.
  • Performs gene cloning and expression of tagged proteins in Chlamydia trachomatis.
  • Utilizes statistical tools to analyze data.
  • Performs western blotting and co-immunoprecipitation experiments.
  • Drafts and contributes to reports, manuscripts, and other written scientific materials.
  • Provides supervision to Research Technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
