About The Position

Dr. Mathias Martins is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to join his research program in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Penn State. The laboratory focuses on poultry viruses, with an emphasis on viral pathogenesis, diagnostic assay development, and vaccine development. This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, and/or PhD in a related field, completed by the start date.

Experience in virology, including molecular and serological assays
Experience conducting animal experiments
Experience working in BSL-2/ABSL-2 and BSL-3/ABSL-3 facilities

Responsibilities

Developing and implementing assays for viral detection, vaccine safety and immunogenicity, and the characterization of immune responses in chickens.
Leading and supporting studies in poultry, including experimental infections and vaccine trials.
Maintaining laboratory equipment.
Managing supplies.
Ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
Preparing scientific manuscripts.
Mentoring students and junior laboratory personnel.
Adhering to all biosafety, laboratory safety, and animal care protocols required by Penn State and relevant regulatory agencies.
