About The Position

The Thermoregulatory and Microvascular Physiology Lab at Penn State University is seeking two postdoctoral scholars to assist with human physiological research. These scholars will focus on human thermoregulatory and microvascular responses to environmental stressors, particularly heat stress and hydration. The research will be conducted within Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development in the Department of Kinesiology, under the direction of Dr. W. Larry Kenney. The projects are funded by NIH, NIOSH (tentative), and industry partners, and will investigate occupational exposures to heat stress, hydration strategies, and women’s health during midlife. The position offers mentorship in experimental design, analysis, scientific reporting, and grantsmanship.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. degree in Kinesiology, Physiology, or a related field
  • Completion of all Ph.D. degree requirements by the appointment date
  • Successful engagement in publication of associated manuscripts
  • Attention to detail
  • Capacity to multi-task
  • Ability to work collegially in a team science environment
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in thermal physiology
  • Track record of successful research related to human thermoregulation

Responsibilities

  • Managing and writing Institutional Review Board Human Study requirements
  • Assisting in study design and modification issues related to experimental protocols
  • Overseeing and leading studies and functioning as the coordinator of the study
  • Managing database organization, data entry, and data analyses, including statistical analyses
  • Managing day-to-day study visits with participants
  • Drafting scientific manuscripts
  • Overseeing and working with graduate and undergraduate students associated with the study
