About The Position

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Leone Lab, part of the Pathology Department at the Froedtert Hospital Cancer Center. The lab’s research interests involve investigating novel communication pathways between tumors and the microenvironment that surrounds them using both animal models and cell-based assays. Currently, the lab is focused on pancreatic cancer studies. The lab also investigates the cellular control of proliferation and is focused on the E2F family of transcription factors and the tumor suppressor protein, Retinoblastoma. The ideal candidate will have received a doctoral degree in biochemistry, cell biology or related scientific field by the time of their appointment and will have experience with some or all of the following techniques: cell culture, PCR assays, Western blots, and flow cytometry. Experience working with mice is not required but would be beneficial. The newly built Cancer Center building will contain a multitude of shared resources and equipment.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in biochemistry, cell biology or related scientific field by the time of their appointment.
  • Experience with cell culture, PCR assays, Western blots, and flow cytometry.
  • Basic biology and chemistry concepts; mathematics; written and computer documentation; data utilization, problem solving, critical thinking, and writing skills.
  • Basic biochemistry techniques including but not limited to: Western blot, and PCR based assays, and molecular biology including construct design and cloning.
  • Scientific writing of manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • PhD in a scientific field or MD
  • 0 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, design, and execute research studies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Participate in discovery projects.
  • Coordinate research study activities and manage projects.
  • Apply for fellowships, other funding opportunities appropriate to the position.
  • Organization and analysis of data and findings.
  • Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff in which you will evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, and design and evaluate lab procedures.
  • All other duties assigned.
