About The Position

The Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University anticipates offering a number of postdoctoral or more senior research positions in theory, observation, and instrumentation. These positions include, but are not limited to, the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Henry Norris Russell Postdoctoral Fellowship, and positions within The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Data Management Team. Research areas may include exoplanet theory, interstellar medium/star formation, plasma astrophysics, and supernovae. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with distinguished faculty and research staff within the department, as well as with strong research groups at the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab, and in the Physics, Geosciences, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Departments, and at the nearby Institute for Advanced Study. The work location is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Appointment terms vary based on rank, with postdoctoral positions typically being one year with renewal expectations, and more senior ranks potentially offering multi-year appointments.

Requirements

  • PhD in Astronomy or a related field.
  • Applications are due November 1, 2026 for initial consideration.
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check as per University policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in exoplanet theory, interstellar medium/star formation, plasma astrophysics, or supernovae.
  • Interest in working with specific fellowship programs like the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. Postdoctoral Fellowship or the Henry Norris Russell Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Responsibilities
