The Simulation and Terrain-based River Elevation Advanced Mapping (STREAM) initiative aims to address the lack of mapped floodplains in many Maine communities, particularly in rural areas. This project will utilize high-resolution elevation data and advanced modeling techniques to calculate 100-year floodplain surfaces. This cost-effective, scientifically defensible approach will provide a foundation for future floodplain management in Maine. The selected individuals will be part of a soft-money, grant-funded team, contingent on funding and successful performance. They will collaborate with researchers, graduate students, and state and federal agency partners to develop flood maps, supporting state flood resilience efforts. Current funding is available through 12/31/2027. The typical hiring salary for these fixed-length positions is $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
