About The Position

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for a Ph.D. or equivalent level candidate at University of North Carolina, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the Marsico Lung Institute. The research will focus on the quantitation and characterization of mucin macromolecules in health and diseases with mucus abnormalities such as COPD, asthma, and CF. This study will employ a broad range of biochemical, biophysical, and proteomics characterization of mucins and their quantitation using light scattering and labeled mass spectrometry-based quantitation technologies. The laboratory at the Marsico Lung Institute is well-equipped and focused on mucin/mucus biochemistry, biophysics, and innate immunity, offering a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense.

Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent level degree.
Experience in biochemistry.
Hands-on experience with the quantitation of macromolecules.
Experience with internal and external quality control and validation of measurements.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams.
Demonstrated record of scientific productivity.
Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Quantitation and characterization of mucin macromolecules in health and diseases with mucus abnormalities.
Employ a broad range of biochemical, biophysical, and proteomics characterization of mucins.
Quantitate mucins using light scattering and labeled mass spectrometry-based quantitation technologies.
Develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense.
Collaborate closely with the principal investigator.
