About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help develop a new generation of multiscale computational models connecting microstructural tissue mechanics, microvascular flow and transport, and tissue function. The work spans in vivo human tissue and in vitro engineered tissue systems and is conducted with a collaborative computational modeling team across CMU and other universities. The role offers the opportunity to establish an independent research trajectory at the intersection of computational science, biomechanics, imaging, and cardiovascular medicine, as part of an international effort focused on coronary microvascular disease.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree.
  • 0–1 year of experience.
  • Strong background in computational engineering, applied mathematics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent research record and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
  • Strong scientific communication skills.
  • Commitment to collaborative and reproducible science.
  • Creativity, ambition, and desire to participate in collaborative research.
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the following: finite element or computational mechanics; computational fluid dynamics and transport; multiscale or multiphysics modeling; scientific machine learning; computer vision and biomedical image analysis; parameter estimation; or integrating experimental or clinical imaging data with computational models.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating comparable knowledge may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members and experimental, computational, and clinical investigators to develop models linking tissue microstructure and local mechanical and transport processes to emergent tissue-level functions.
  • Develop new computational methods with biological and translational impact.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
