Under the direction/guidance of a mentor (principal investigator), assumes responsibility for a specific, on-going research project. The experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. This role will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. This position will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. This role also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab. The Warren laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and creative post-doc to join our growing team. We study normal and malignant hematopoiesis. Our work is informed by the study of germline disorders that cause global failure of hematopoiesis (bone marrow failure syndromes) or those that specifically impact neutrophil formation (severe congenital neutropenia). We have a particular interest in genes that impact mitochondrial function, and how this translates into impaired stem and progenitor cell function. Our long-term goal is to use the knowledge gained from studying the biology of hematopoiesis and granulopoiesis to develop new therapies and surveillance strategies. This could impact patients with rare inherited bone marrow failure disorders, but also patients undergoing treatments such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, chemotherapy, or gene therapy. Current projects in the lab investigate: Understanding the role of a mitochondrial protein folding chaperone (CLPB) in normal granulopoiesis Investigating the hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell phenotype of CLPB-deficient mice Studying the role of RUNX1 somatic mutations in pre-leukemic evolution within congenital neutropenia syndromes CRISPR/Cas9 screen and high-throughput drug screen to identify essential determinants of granulopoiesis to develop a cell therapy
