About The Position

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct collaborative research on using seismicity to illuminate fluid and melt pathways in Earth’s lithosphere. The appointment is for 12 months beginning on January 1, 2027, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent upon satisfactory progress. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be co-advised by Prof. Tianze Liu and principal investigators from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of Nevada, Reno.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in seismology at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish scholarly work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with earthquake catalog construction, especially cross-correlation-based earthquake relocation.
  • Experience with Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo.
  • Experience with rock-physics modeling of seismic observations.
  • Experience with AI-assisted programming.

Responsibilities

  • Use waveform cross-correlation to construct high-resolution earthquake catalogs
  • Develop methods to estimate medium properties in earthquake clusters.
  • Lead and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference proceedings.
  • Participate in the intellectual community of the department by attending seminars, workshops, and interdisciplinary events.
