About The Position

The malaria research lab of Dr. Ashley Vaughan at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scientist to study malaria parasites. This NIH-funded project aims identify and test novel antigens for transmission-blocking vaccines to prevent the spread of the parasite from infected hosts to mosquito vectors. The work will be carried out in the human-infective parasite Plasmodium falciparum using in vitro and in vivo infection models covering the entire parasite life cycle. This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. The project is a collaboration between Dr. Vaughan and Dr. Kristian Swearingen of the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), who will co-mentor the successful applicant.

Requirements

Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.

Nice To Haves

Experience in cell biology, molecular biology, or molecular genetics laboratory technique (e.g. cell culture, PCR, microscopy)
Willingness to work with a diverse team of scientists, including postdocs, students, and technicians.
The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Experience working with Plasmodium parasites

Responsibilities

Producing Plasmodium falciparum parasites at multiple stages, including blood stages and mosquito stages
Performing standard membrane feeding assays
Performing data analysis and presenting research at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and in peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts
