About The Position

The Carnegie Mellon University Libraries and Carnegie Mellon University Press are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Humanities and Publishing. This two-year, full-time position is designed for a scholar-practitioner to foster a new digital humanities initiative, gain project management experience, and contribute to new forms of knowledge production. The fellow will support Computational Humanities academic programs and a lab space, and will also develop and manage editorial and production workflows for a new imprint of multimodal publishing projects at CMU Press. This fellowship offers hands-on experience in academic publishing, program coordination, and community-centered scholarly communication, contributing to CMU’s digital and computational humanities programs.

Requirements

  • PhD in the humanities, humanistic social sciences, or a related interdisciplinary field (degree must be awarded by start date).
  • Demonstrated interest in computational/digital humanities, public scholarship, or new forms of publishing.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Commitment to fostering community and belonging in academic spaces.
  • Applicants must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa.
  • Only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience facilitating events, teaching, or supporting collaborative research.
  • Experience with scholarly production workflows.
  • Familiarity with digital publishing tools and platforms such as GitHub, LaTeX, Manifold, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Help build a vibrant community within the Computational Humanities Lab through events, workshops, coworking hours, and student engagement.
  • Facilitate applied research experiences for students, working closely with faculty and staff.
  • Maintain the digital presence for the program and lab, highlighting student and faculty work.
  • Direct student assistants.
  • Design and coordinate the project management, production, and design process for multimodal publications.
  • Manage author communications.
  • Supervise student assistants and develop collaborative publishing workflows for digital projects.
