About The Position

A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available within the laboratory of Dr. Sharookh Kapadia in the Department of Immunology Discovery. We are seeking a highly motivated, independent scientist to spearhead innovative research to identify novel biology in chronic inflammatory lung diseases, such as COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, and inflammatory airway disorders. The successful candidate will be part of the Genentech post-doctoral training program that provides an outstanding environment and the opportunity to pursue fundamental basic science questions in an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries. You will have the opportunity to productively collaborate with researchers across multiple departments, present your work to project teams, and contribute to scientific publications.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology or cellular/molecular biology
  • Deep scientific and technical expertise in epithelial, endothelial or innate immunity.
  • Consistent track record of independently conducting laboratory experiments and advancing at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead innovative research to identify novel biology in chronic inflammatory lung diseases, such as COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, and inflammatory airway disorders.
  • Explore the underlying drivers of COPD pathophysiology by integrating in vitro screens with in vivo trait-based models exposed to clinically relevant viral, bacterial, and allergen exposures.
  • Uncover fundamental biological insights to identify and characterize causal nodes that drive disease pathophysiology.
  • Productively collaborate with researchers across multiple departments.
  • Present your work to project teams.
  • Contribute to scientific publications.
