About The Position

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Steven Skiena in the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University. The incumbent will conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI/ML and extreme weather forecasting, employing data science models as developed in computer vision and natural language processing (NLP). This project leverages the large-scale high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure of New York State’s Empire AI enabling us to train large AI models that will outperform traditional numerical prediction models.

Requirements

• Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely related field in hand by the appointment start date.

Nice To Haves

• Research experience in computer vision, NLP, geospatial data systems, or high-performance computing.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and evaluate novel AI/ML models. Develop computational innovations to enhance model efficiency, architecture, and performance.
• Collaborate on additional projects using text and vision models building on their own research interests.
• Co-author manuscripts for submission to leading scientific journals.
• Present research at group meetings, seminars, and conferences.
• Other duties as assigned.
