About The Position

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering - Prof. Rohit Karnik and Prof. Zachary Smith, to work on experimental measurements, process design, and techno-economic analysis of ion-selective electrodialysis for wastewater treatment. Will be part of a 3-year industry-funded project “Advanced Anion Exchange Membranes for Selective Ion Removal and Valorization by Electrodialysis” in collaboration with Prof. Tim Swager and have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at MIT and work collaboratively with researchers in the three labs. Will be expected to communicate research findings through presentations and scientific publications, present research results in meetings with sponsors, and contribute to proposal writing.

Requirements

  • PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on membrane processes, particularly electrodialysis or related systems.
  • Expertise in membrane processes and particularly electrodialysis, chemical processes design and modeling, technoeconomic analysis, water treatment, and analytical methods for characterization of aqueous solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality research.
  • Excellent oral and written professional communication skills.
  • Proven experience in conducting high-quality research in membrane processes and electrodialysis, process design, and techno-economic analysis.
  • Understanding of electrodialysis systems, process design and modeling, experimental techniques related to electrodialysis, or sufficient background to quickly learn the topics.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as chromatography and mass spectroscopy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team as well as independently.
