The X-ray Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct fundamental and applied research in autonomous experimentation at a small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) beamline. The project will develop workflows and instrumentation for closed-loop experimentation at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) SAXS beamline, emphasizing wet-solution processes. Topics of interest include critical-materials extraction and lipid nanoparticle assembly. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists and engineers at APS and across other divisions at Argonne National Laboratory. The role involves developing, operating, and maintaining autonomous beamline experimentation capabilities, including a wet-chemistry synthesis platform; conducting SAXS/WAXS and XRF measurements at the APS 12-ID beamline; and developing in situ and operando experimental strategies. The appointee will plan, prepare, and execute synchrotron beamtime experiments, analyze and report results, build data-analysis and automation workflows using Python and related tools, publish findings, and collaborate with Argonne staff, users, and external research partners. This is a long-term fixed-term, full-time postdoctoral position. The expected hiring range is $72,879.00–$121,465.00. Comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package. Employment offers are contingent upon a background check; the position may also require government access authorization. Applicants will be asked to disclose participation in certain Foreign Government Sponsored or Affiliated Activities for review.
