About The Position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows for a multidisciplinary research program led by Abdulaziz Ahmed, PhD. Each appointment is planned for three years. Fellows will contribute to multiple research projects applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and generative AI to healthcare problems.

Requirements

• A PhD completed by the appointment start date in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, biomedical informatics, electrical engineering, industrial or systems engineering, or a closely related engineering or computing field.
• Demonstrated expertise in data science, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, large language models, generative AI, or a closely related area.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, and experience developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining analytical or research software.
• Knowledge of statistical and machine learning evaluation methods and the ability to select appropriate methods for complex real-world data.
• Evidence of research productivity through peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, preprints, software, or other scholarly products.
• Ability to work independently, manage research tasks, meet project deadlines, and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to clinical and nontechnical collaborators.

Responsibilities
