About The Position

Receiving money for selling stamps and postal services; answering customer questions; working face to face with the public; additional duties as assigned by management. Employee is responsible for compliance with all rules and related regulations for the USPS. Failure to comply with these and other Federal, State and Local Laws and Regulations could be cause for disciplinary action(s) up to and including termination. An entry level person should be able to perform this job reasonably well within three months.

Requirements

  • Must be responsible, friendly, courteous and have good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well with the public as well as with fellow employees.
  • Clerks must listen carefully to customers’ questions and concerns and be able to provide necessary information.
  • They must understand various postal services to effectively offer correct service.
  • Clerks are responsible for the money received and making a daily deposit.
  • They must be able to handle this money accurately in addition to keeping it secure.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving checks and cash for stamps and postal services.
  • Use postal scale to weigh letters and parcels.
  • Use scanner on bar-coded mail.
  • Prepare a registered daily deposit for mailing using adding machine.
  • Sell and print Money Orders.
  • Order and maintain stamp stock.
  • Order and maintain supplies.
  • Deliver mail, scan parcels to PO boxes.
  • Watch training videos and prepare for rate changes.
  • Communicate and report to supervisors at Ashland Post Office.
  • Prepare stock and assist with audits.
