About The Position

Nova Pioneer is seeking a Post School Success Associate to join their South Africa team. This role is crucial for helping students achieve success in their post-secondary endeavors, contributing to Nova Pioneer's goal of developing leaders and innovators. The Associate will deliver a distinctive university and career exploration and guidance program integrated into the Nova Pioneer secondary schools. The position is based in Johannesburg and will support three secondary schools: Nova Pioneer Ormonde, Midrand, and Ruimsig. Requirements

  • A minimum qualification of a Bachelor's Degree in Education Management, College Counselling, Psychology, or other related courses.
  • 3+ years of experience in college counseling in a secondary school or an after-high school program.
  • Familiarity with the international tertiary education space and experience guiding students to apply to tertiary institutions abroad.
  • Knowledgeable about various local tertiary education pathways.
  • Conversant with research on the future of work and passionate about guiding students in their career choices.
  • Experience working with adolescents and youth, with a track record of building strong professional relationships for effective mentorship and guidance.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across teams and organizations.
  • Strategic thinking and thought leadership abilities, with the capacity to translate ideas into action and execute them.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines and targets.
  • Problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
  • Knowledge of the Cambridge curriculum and Cambridge progression pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Hold office hours for one-on-one consultations with Grade 12-13 students to discuss career options, college/university applications, and other post-school options.
  • Support students and families in navigating the local university/college application process, including guiding them to complete applications and facilitating other local admission opportunities.
  • Guide students in submitting quality international applications within deadlines, including reviewing and organizing standardized testing, personal statements, essays, and checking documents.
  • Guide students and parents in completing financial aid applications like the CSS profile.
  • Follow up with recommenders to ensure quality letters and supporting documents are submitted on time.
  • Facilitate the submission of school documents such as transcripts and school profiles.
  • Liaise with university representatives to advocate for student applications and provide supporting information.
  • Manage admission offers and inquiries on the Concourse Global platform.
  • Liaise with Universities South Africa (USAf) to expedite matriculation exemption certificate issuing.
  • Facilitate registrations for National Benchmark Tests (NBTs).
  • Connect and partner with university partners such as African Leadership University, Strathmore, USIU, Ashesi University, and Africa Leadership Academy.
  • Hold office hours for Grade 11 students to guide them on career selection, college/university lists, and alternative plans.
  • Hold workshops for Grade 11 students on pathway classes based on their declared pathways and next steps.
  • Review Grade 11 students’ pathway selections and provide feedback.
  • Oversee SAT prep for Grade 11 students where required, including sharing practice resources, issuing and grading mock tests, and guiding registration.
  • Run parent and learner support sessions for Grade 8-10 students on available pathways.
  • Work with Academic Leadership to support learners in selecting appropriate courses and future planning.
  • Support SEL and Leadership Teachers in incorporating materials for learners' Post School Success (PSS) journey.
  • Work with various Nova Pioneer teams (e.g., Marketing) to identify and highlight success stories and opportunities.
  • Support NPOS, NPRS, and NPMS leadership teams in highlighting successes to the broader organization.
  • Track alumni on a regular basis regarding their lives post-Nova Pioneer.
  • Collaborate with PSS teams across regions to support alumni and facilitate cross-regional learning.
  • Use the internal database to update and track progress towards goals.
  • Send monthly process updates.
  • Participate in bimonthly meetings with the Director of Schools.
  • Communicate ongoing progress with parents regarding students' post-school success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with School Leaders and Deans to schedule student time for post-school success work and coordinate essay writing, recommendations, testing, etc.
